The Chicken Tractor

One of my favorite parts of my job is meeting the artists whose work adorns our gallery.   Visiting with Meei-Ling Ng, the creator of the fabulous chicken that graced the front of refuse/re-seen's postcard, we learned about some of her other projects, in particular, her Deep Roots Outdoor installation.

"That's so cool!" I said after she explained it to me. "I need to share this. Can I post it on our blog?"

I was completely fascinated by Meei-Ling Ng's "Chicken Tractor."

(from: http://www.meeiling.com/index.html )

"The Chicken Tractor is designed and created based on Michaelann specific needs for her front yard farm. From the size needed for the number of chickens to the weight and shade, door and materials use, all had to be thought through before the art form was created. Using found/recycled materials. The chicken feathers are made from discarded irrigation drip tape donated from Weavers Way's Mort Brooks Farm. The Chicken Tractor is a moveable cage to keep chickens confined to one area of a garden bed so that they can "debug, weed and fertilize" the bed before new plantings."

Thanks Meei-Ling for sharing your work with us!

Featured Artist: Meei-Ling Ng

From April 14th, to June 2nd, we present "Refuse/Re-seen" during which we'll focus on individual artists here on our blog.  Today, we're pleased to introduce to you: Meei-Ling Ng

Meei-Ling Ng is known for her bird and nature paintings as well as her three-dimensional art installations. Her artwork takes inspiration from bird watching, exploring national parks and wildlife refuges, and gardening. Using ink and acrylic paint on paper and large canvases, she brings her subjects to life through bold black lines and color. She, primarily, uses recycled, re-purposed, and raw materials to create her three-dimensional art installations. Meei-Ling’s nature-inspired art installations are designed to be interactive and invite audiences to experience their content through participation.
